Installing Spotmask¶
Workstation Installation¶
To install Spotmask on a machine you can just use the installer to put all required files into their corresponding default directories.
There are separate installers covering different versions of 3ds Max. Use the installer that includes the 3ds Max version you want to use the plug-in with.
Network Rendering¶
If you want to use Spotmask during network rendering you need to make sure that all the following files are available to the network rendering machines. You can either copy the files to the corresponding machines or make them available on a central location accessible by all machines. If you want to use a non-default setup for your plug-in and mental ray shader paths pleace refer to the 3ds Max and mental ray manuals about details.
Spotmask.dln
This plugin file must be available for all render machines through their plug-in path configuration. Place it into the 3ds Max plugins directory or adjust your 3ds Max plugin path configuration accordingly.
SpotmaskShader.dll and SpotmaskShader.mi
These are needed by mental ray in combination with the 3ds Max plug-in. Make sure that both files are available for the renderer. Place them in the default ‘shaders_autoload’ path or into a path specified in your mental ray config (not the default Max config).
License Management¶
The demo version of Spotmask requires no license and can be installed and used freely on any number of machines.
The full version of Spotmask requires activation before it can be used. The render element user interface contains a button you can use to activate your license and use the plug-in. You can also use this option to deactivate the license again if you want to deactivate it again to use it on another workstation.

Silent Installation¶
The Spotmask installer supports the following command line switches for silent installation:
/S
Initiates silent installation mode. If this flag is omitted the installer will run with a window.
By default the plugin is installed for all found installations of 3ds Max. Use the following switches to prevent installation for specific components:
